Villagers whisper that his death had something to do with the local cryptids, the Dark Watchers: ghostly shadows that lurk on foggy foothills, only visible to a select unlucky few. Fleeing across the country and unexpectedly inheriting her grandfather's farm gives Robyn Fields a second chance to dive back into the safety of the closet and drown out the gender thoughts through constant farmwork. But her efforts seem to provoke the attention of those ominous shadows. Local vineyard heir Ash Grantor has seen them for over a decade without incident, and knew he was a trans man for about as long. Bottling himself up worked out just fine—at least, until he got arrested and disinherited for interfering with his father's plans to trick the new farmer into signing away the property. Before Ash can do anything drastic like fleeing the country with his embezzled funds, Robyn invites Ash and his two friends to move onto the farm and rebuild the farmhouse together. But with the Watchers around, the fields refuse to yield much. And when Robyn and Ash find themselves growing into something closer than farmmates, long-repressed feelings bubble to the surface, causing the Dark Watchers to draw ever nearer.
