The Outsider
Margarete Nichols uses powerful storytelling techniques in the children’s story of a new kid (Linh Yon) from Vietnam coming to America to escape his war-torn country, only to find himself being bullied at his new school and neighborhood. She uses vivid detailed descriptions accompanied by realistic illustrations which appeal to both young readers and experienced readers alike. When one of the bullies (Bobby Dale) has an accident and is in danger of losing his life, the new kid is faced with rescuing him and this is the moment of truth for both the villain and the hero. A beautifully crafted story of how a turn of events can change lives in an instant forever.
