Silently Screaming: The Journal: A Guided Journal To Assist With Mental Health

T. Martinez

Have you ever had a mind full of swirling thoughts you couldn’t make sense of? Or your head was so full of noise and you just couldn’t make it stop- desperately searching for a way to get it to just quiet down! I have made it my life’s work to promote journaling as a means of [self] therapy. There are so many roadblocks in getting “help”- health insurance restrictions, monetary set-backs, the stigma attached, shame or embarrassment… the list, seemingly, is endless. Journaling won’t cure a mental illness; however, I do believe it can play a huge role in assisting in relieving some of the symptoms due to depression, anxiety, OCD, personality disorders, such as BPD, etc. Writing out thoughts and feelings is a way of holding yourself accountable as well as alleviating some of the pent up thoughts and emotions stuck inside you, just begging to get out! Some people just don’t know how to get started. In this Silently Screaming journal, I have guided you through some writing exercising, while giving examples of my own entries and artwork. All inspired by the book, Silently Screaming; which was, in fact, inspired by, my journals.
