Next Gen: Writing Across Digital Spaces: An Anthology of OSU Upward Bound and Education Students

Oklahoma State University

Next Gen is written by the next generations of higher education students and classroom teachers.

This anthology contains the writing of Oklahoma State University Upward Bound students and Secondary English education preservice teachers that emerged during an eight-week online literacy partnership focusing on genre-based, process-oriented writing pedagogy. Each writer chose two pieces to publish. The “write-in” pieces are selected short pieces of writing that the literacy partners wrote at the beginning of each writing session. The “process pieces” are pieces that the writers worked on across multiple sessions. The OSU education students implemented various instructional strategies for nurturing writer agency such as exploring mentor texts, various brainstorming and planning activities, drafting, conferring, and revising. The Upward Bound students offered support to these future teachers while also engaging in informal conversations about attending college, time management, life, and imagining possibilities of the future. The writing offers readers access to dimensions of students' lives in secondary and higher education from family, trauma, work, love, and faith.
