Sieve
Inspired by real events - Momo Serafini, a first-generation Italian-American, owes much of his identity to the walls of his family's local tavern in Roxbury, a forgotten enclave in Boston's shadows. Columbo's was a haven where do-gooders and wrongdoers alike came together over Nonna Pia’s notorious veal cutlet sandwiches where the secret ingredient was...pork. Momo decided to find out how the place earned its name, a quest hindered by a code of silence that ran afoul most immigrant families of his era. The truth eventually spilled out. Nonno Gianfranco, a sieve maker, devised the conspiracy that resulted in Benito Mussolini's assassination and the Serafini's covert admission into America. Their revolutionary tendencies resulted in a merciless, multigenerational, conflict with Boston’s most prominent underbelly, who never gave up their pursuit and took a direct shot at Momo on May 15, 1994. Momo's determination to change the family's destiny appeared thrown into upheaval by his father's dubious judgments and sudden death. Momo was forced into modern-day indentured servitude after a cologne-bathed reprobate revealed how Herc stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from a citywide sportsbook. This liability led to the establishment of a dangerous, though lucrative, gambling ring on his affluent college campus, safely tucked away in the Boston suburbs. Momo became estranged from those sworn to protect him, desperate to keep his secrets and escape subjugation. Momo's self-destructive inclinations were exacerbated by an anxious mother who was influenced by Kenneth Copeland, a popular television evangelist, and an uncaring stepfather who seldom recognized his existence. Seeking refuge in relationships that failed to reach a pinnacle worthy of a John Hughes film, Momo battled to emerge into early adulthood as the temptations of his possessors lured him in and transformed him into an incredibly complex anti-hero. His plight intensified as years of deceit unraveled and threatened the delicate line between virtue and survival. After four years, the Serafini's Russian nesting doll of lies culminated in a historic Independence Day, resulting in an event that forever changed a part of Boston that had never reached the headlines, much less found its way into history books.
