Some people, such as the Global Vigilants Champion, Freya Sparks, receive their abilities naturally. Others, like the boisterous and ever-optimistic middle schooler Ogimaa Knight, gain their powers by bonding with super-powered creatures called Biunites. Some attempt to acquire abilities through much more devious means. While training and competing in tournaments, the different heroes of these stories also confront their own emotional and physical limitations. To become the competitors and overall individuals they aspire to be, they must learn to overcome these limitations—both to excel in their sport and to find greater happiness in their lives. The character arcs in these stories draw from real-life lessons on improving mental health and becoming the best version of oneself.
