Love and Death

Kirk Sowers

Love & Death is based on the author's travels thru Africa, Europe and Asia from 1977 to 1979. Kirk is 25 and living the lifestyle of a tennis pro in south Florida before he is arrested by the FBI. He is forced to testify against two international drug dealers and then must flee to London. There, he blends in with the hippie lifestyle. He meets a man leaving for Africa and decides to join him to get away from the cold. After months of hardship in the desert and jungles of Africa, he begins to understand the true nature of the men he is with. Kirk has one chance to escape before they are arrested at the Tanzanian border. The adventure continues as he travels to Sudan where his two female companions are kidnapped and he is left for dead in the desert. Rescued by a wandering nomad, he returns to Khartoum and travels north to Cairo with two Palestinian terrorists. This is just the beginning of the adventures that await him in Athens, Belgrade, Marrakech, Istanbul, Bangkok and Kathmandu. The romance, riots and revolutions only increase Kirk's desire for more adventure. This was now the life for him, where Love & Death coexist, on the Hippie Trail.
