Boys From the Wood

John Simons

Even though it had its share of celebrities, in the 1940's there were quite a few council flats, building sites, and bombed houses punctuating the streets of expensive houses in St. John's Wood. This was schoolboy Tommy Harris's playground. Rationing and low wages made life hard, but his working class parents were proud, and endeavored to bring up their family to know right from wrong. With no pocket money as such, Tommy lived on his wits, finding various ways to occupy his time with his friend Tiny.
