I Forgot to Read the Fine Print
It is common knowledge how missionaries live--in mud huts with mosquito netting covering hammocks. They boil their water before using it in any capacity. They carry machetes, eat bugs, and bathe in crocodile-infested waters. They befriend and convert cannibals. They get their news via HAM radio. And, they're always asking for money. When we began our journey, our knowledge of missionaries and mission work was limited to what we had seen and heard when a missionary visited our church. Based on that information, we felt well equipped to enter the mission field. Except, we forgot to read the fine print...These are my stories, retelling the lessons I had to learn the hard way--by living them myself.I wrote this booklet for prospective missionaries, but I think church folks could read and learn about mission life and be encouraged to pray more. While writing, my sarcastic side came out. But, I also tried to show my heart. I strive to live a loving, genuine life, but once in a while sarcastic humor appears. It's like I tell my kids: If I don't act a little crazy, I'll go nuts. Minnie Letcher
