Diver

Dmitry Tarasov

A novel, based on real events tells about the life of Yegor Tikhonov: an owner of a diving centre, a diving instructor with a vast experience, a businessman called Diver by his associates. Finding himself by chance in a detention facility, the hero of the book reconsiders his life and decides to realize his dream, i.e., become a technical diver in the shortest possible time and dive at the divers’ legendary locality — Blue Hole (the town of Dahab) — to a depth of one hundred and fourteen meters. Simultaneously, Yegor tries to use diving to rehabilitate his friend, curing him of drug abuse. In the course of profound diving at Blue Hole, following a series of mistakes, Diver gets sick with the decompression illness. As a result, his legs fail and he ends up in a wheelchair. Coping with the consequences of the disability, the hero grows spiritually and psychologically. He starts watching his friends and associates through the different eyes, learning the bitterness of treachery and defeat. Will he overcome the adversities? Will he retain diving, love and friendship in his life? Will he save, in those trials, the fidelity to God and the cherished cause of his life? The novel reveals the philosophy of diving, profusely uses the diving slang and terminology, and describes the author’s deep impressions.
