When Colonel Michael Stanton, the CO at Creech Air Force Base in Nevada is selected for a top-secret mission by the CIA because of his language skills, he flies to Kandahar Air Force Base in Afghanistan after turning over his command of Predator and Reaper drones to begin the interrogation of Al Qaeda and Taliban suspects regarding their trading of heroin for weaponry. It is while on this mission that he receives word of the death of his eighteen-year-old daughter, Rachel, in Los Angeles. Granted a temporary leave from his assignment, he departs KAF, not only to bury her, but also to find out the cause of her sudden demise. While claiming her body from the Coroner, he is told that his daughter was murdered by a forced injection of heroin. Shocked at this disclosure, and now determined to expose those responsible for her death, he embarks upon another mission that takes him into the dangerous underworld of LA narcotics trafficking, navigating up the chain of command of an international drug cartel, its leader seemingly protected by a woman. Could she be the flirtatious Congresswoman he meets on the flight back to Los Angeles? Or perhaps the sympathetic Los Angeles Police detective investigating his daughter's death? Or maybe the coldly efficient DEA investigator or the puzzling CIA liaison officer with whom he must interact? Those questions are surprisingly answered when he ultimately confronts one of the women in a Las Vegas hotel room.
