Are Your Parents Home?

Jon Athan

3 1 rating · 1 review on Book Nook

While her parents attend a work party, eighteen-year-old Ella Romero is left in charge of her two siblings-thirteen-year-old Nicholas and eight-year-old Arianna-at their secluded lake house. In her usual fashion, Ella invites her friends to hang out while her parents are away, too. It was supposed to be an easy, quiet, normal night.

But then a grizzled stranger arrives at the home. Although no one answers the front door, he knocks and talks, knocks and talks-knocks and talks. Not before long, the man's bizarre, nonsensical ramblings turn into nasty threats.

He wants to get inside the house. He believes he's meant to be with Ella. And he won't let anything or anyone stop him from fulfilling his 'destiny.'

Jon Athan, the author of Blender Babies and The Groomer, brings you a white-knuckle, high-tension, "one-shot" home invasion novel. Don't forget to lock your doors before reading...

||First and foremost.. For the people who are like, oh my his blah blah blah, his hard drive needs to be checked, You picked up a book from a well known splatter-punk and extreme horror writer.. what do you think happens in these types of books. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK TRIGGERS AND DO YOUR RESEARCH to determine if these books are right for you. I’m not condoning the violence of what happens in this story, but come on.. you have the amount of common sense as the two sisters in this book, if you think anyone is going to be left unscathed. About the book: Now that my rant is done… you follow Ella, who is responsible for her younger siblings, Nick and Arianna. Inviting her best friends Brady and Claire over for company. While she waits, a stranger knocks in the door, asking her ARE YOUR PARENTS HOME? Spooked, she calls the police. When Brady and Claire finally get there.. all is seems alright. Until it’s not. Somehow the stranger gets in and the night of unimaginable terror ensues. My Opinion: Even though the story was entertaining.. it made no sense unless her had been stalking her for a few days. I think both Ella and Arianna had no common sense. I can see the child being afraid. But when you see things happening to the people in your house.. the RUN and get help. But she wastes precious time not listening to her sister. Don’t get me started on Ella, all she did was hide and watch things happening. Instead of calling the police. She Facebook messages her elderly neighbour. Instead of running to and calling the police she hides. You don’t get to see much of Brady and Nick. I felt bad for Clair trying to protect Ella’s brother and sister. And neither one of those girls used that time wisely.. Snowball the cat’s time was even wasted. Ella and Arianna were the two most unlikeable characters I’ve read. The Intruder ( Grant ) has his own sad story, he needed to be handcuffed and in a padded room.||
