Caterpillars Never Lie

Peter Wendling

Matthew, a five-year old boy with a vivid imagination, befriends a talking caterpillar who asks for Matthew's help to prove he is brave enough to convince the butterfly judges to allow him to be transformed into a butterfly. In order to help Mr. Caterpillar, Matthew is transformed himself into a caterpillar and tricks Miranda the crow into not eating either Mr. Caterpillar or himself because one of them just may be a poison caterpillar. Matthew in the form of a caterpillar shows his bravery while talking to Miranda the crow and Mr. Caterpillar shows enough bravery to convince the butterfly judges to allow him to become a beautiful blue butterfly. The conversations between the boy and Mr. Caterpillar and the boy and Miranda the crow, together with the colorful imaginative illustrations will fascinate any child or adult reader.
