Overcome My Fate

Vac Vu

We were born and grown up in the 1930s in Vietnam, witnessing a cataclysmic period of the country, with many political, economic, cultural and social ups and downs as well as rapid advances in science and technology. In the late 20th century and early 21st century, we have not only seen with our own eyes and enjoyed great changes in the human's civilization but also been living in ever peace. Therefore, we are so happy despite numerous difficulties and hardships that we have experienced. At the age of 80, we want to write such a chronicle of our lives that can help our descendants to have an insight into their predecessors. This Memoir is composed diachronically from the feudal and colonial time through the revolution of national salvation to the period of socialist construction, including such susceptible socio-economic events as the land reform in the 1950s. Therefore, the Memoir can inevitably contain here and there personal viewpoints and opinions that need sympathy from readers. Through the hard life-related in the Memoir, the authors hope younger generations to learn about useful lessons of courage and reason. The Memoir consists of five chapters: Chapter 1: Our Father - Life and Career. Chapter 2: Land Reform. Chapter 3: After Land Reform. Chapter 4: The New Post-Land Reform Life. Chapter 5: Finale.
