Into the Fire

More than 90% of the population was wiped out through plague, starvation and anarchy. From the chaos, a new Governing Body seized power and control over the few survivors desperately clining to life. Nearly a hundred years after the disaster that nearly wiped out all humankind, a new society has emerged; a society of domination, cruelty and secrecy. Weakened from decades of malnutrition and slave labor, the people of America are broken and stand quietly by as random children are seized and never seen again. In the center of it all is a small town in Kansas that scratches its existence from the dead earth. Hidden among the citizens, one young woman grows in strength under the ever watchful eye of the Governing Body. With only a few months left until she can leave the careful guard of the High Schoo,l she is found out. There is no more hiding for Moyra as she is handed over to the Government Agents by a mother that never wanted a freak for a daughter. As Moyra weakens under the unrelenting strain at The Center, she has no idea that there are more like her staying still in the shadows. When she reaches her breaking point, the Governing Body has no more use for her and casts her into a fire for destruction. What came out of the fire was a creature unlike any they had seen before. They thought they could control her. They thought they could use her. But they had no idea who they were dealing with. Once Moyra meets her fellow prisoners, her sanity wavers as she questions who and what she has become. She depends on her new chosen family for answers but they give none, only more mystery. With an uncertain future, Moyra and her companions follow the tutilage of the brutal instructors. Every day is an experience in pain and humiliation. When the opportunity arises to escape, not all of them will go free. In the despair, Moyra finds new strength and new determination.
