The Strikers: Book One of the Morthenstar Trilogy

"In The Strikers, a young Ashan named Tarr is not chosen to be part of a family and is cast out from his tribe for a period of one year. He resigns himself to wandering the outlying country, planning to visit a nearby human city and hopefully find a library where he can pass the year in peace. While in the city of Two Falls, however, Tarr meets a band of visiting royals and they mistake him for a figure in an ancient prophecy. The prophecy foretells the coming of an group of fighters-the Strikers-who will come together to resist the forces of impending evil. The royals believe that Tarr could be one of the Strikers predicted in the prophecy. Tarr doesn't remotely believe in these sorts of things, but takes the opportunity to follow the royals to their palace and do a bit of sightseeing. But soon enough the prophecy is revealed to be more than just the stuff of legend. The heir to an ancient evil warlord is revealed to be Cira Kagai, the sister of one of his new friends. And though Tarr is still convinced they've got the wrong person, his sharp mind and quick thinking help to save his friends' lives and keep them one step ahead of Cira. The book concludes with Tarr and his friends evading capture and fleeing into the mountains to discover the identity of the heir of Morthenstar"--
