With the Old Guard: A Badge, a Gun, Six Bullets and Our Wits
With The Old Guard takes us back in time to the early 1960s, when most of the skills the street officers had were a Badge, a Gun, Six Bullets and their Wits! During the late 60s, 70’s and 80’s, modern police equipment and training was still being developed. Patrol officers relied heavily on senior officers. The author was a D.C. police officer during 1963-1966, when street officers worked one man beats in the meanest and toughest streets, in heavy crime ridden areas. In the late 60’s, the author was a member of the Prince George’s County Police Department that patrolled in one-man cars, often going from one emergency call to another, with no walkie-talkies. The author takes you back to those dangerous but exciting times with vivid tales of the “Ole Days.”
