Motive: The Driving Force

George Harrison

There are questions in life that we all must answer. Some things we cannot skirt around or tuck away. We must confront and pursue solutions. We must question everything. Not disrespectfully or to prove someone wrong, but we all must be able to explain why we believe what we believe. We must be able to give an answer to why we do the things that we do. Someone said to me they were looking to have a particular body shape, and so they were going to start a particular workout program to achieve their goal. My first question to them was, “why?” Their answer was “just because that shape was appealing to them.” I asked again, “but why?” They repeated the same answer. My question was a rhetorical one. I was not asking for my understanding; it was simply to see if they knew what was driving them to do what they did. That answer doesn’t come without taking inventory.
